(Published in "The Evening News", Carleton, MI, July 25, 1933.) "John Chamberlain Dies in Carleton. John Chamberlain, aged 72 years, died suddenly at 10 p.m. Monday while sitting in a chair at his home on South Matthew Street. He had spent the earlier part of the evening about the village and was sitting and conversing with his wife and a neighbor when he was stricken. Coroner Henry Leidel of Maybee was called and ascribed a heart attack as the cause of death. Mr. Chamberlain was born at Stony Creek, Frenchtown, July 25, 1861, and was the last of his immediate family. He was the son of Lewis and Mary Clock Chamberlain, pioneers of that vicinity. Mr. Chamberlain spent several years as a section hand on the Pere Marquette Railroad. He was married to Jean Thorp June 28, 1927. Besides the widow he is survived by a son, John, aged 5 years; two step-children, Edwin and Isabelle Chamberlain and nephews, nieces and cousins living in Montana and in LaSalle township. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Carleton Methodist Episcopal Church with the Rev. C.E. McKelvey, pastor, conducting the services. Burial will be in the Carleton cemetery."
