It is said that Andrew was born in Scotland and lived in Ireland before he joined an Irish regiment and came to America to fight in the War of 1812. He then deserted and joined the United States Army ( I have found no documentation proving that he joined an Irish regiment and came to America to fight in the war of 1812, deserted and joined the US Army, other than it is stated in "The Irish Soldier, Andrew Murray, and his descendants" by Luella Obsharsky, Jessie Seven and Electa Murray Hoover and "Soldiers of the war of 1812 who died in Michigan" by Alice Miller). We have not found any documentation that tells us about the thirteen years between 1815, when the war was over, and when he married Maria Chamberlain on 28 may 1828. Nor have we found any documentation of his ancestry in Ireland or Scotland. Andrew and Maria Chamberlain were married in St. Mary's Church, Frenchtown, by Father William Bodin, Roman Catholic Priest and Missionary of Michigan. Marias brothers Joseph and Louis Chamberlain were witnesses. The 1820 census of Monroe County, Michigan Shows NO Andrew Murry. I also checked Washtenaw, Detroit, Wayne, Berrien, and Lenewee Counties and No Andrew Murrays are listed there either. There is Joseph Chamberlain listed as a foreigner, not naturalized (0020001 0110001). The 1830 Census of Monroe County, Michigan shows 1 male under 5 (Andrew, Jr.), 1 male 5-10 (?), 1 male 40-50 (Andrew, Sr), 1 female 20-30 (Maria). Joseph Chamberlain is also listed (000020001 0001). The 1840 census of Monroe Township in Monroe County, 30 September 1840, lists Andrew Murray as having one son under five (Joseph), one son between five and ten (Daniel), one son between ten and fifteen (Andrew, Jr.), two daughters under five (Mary and Ellen), one daughter between five and ten (Rosalia), One male adult between sixty and seventy (Andrew), one female adult between forty and fifty (Maria). The 1850 census of Monroe Township in Monroe County, 16 October 1850, lists Andrew, 21, farmer (real estate valued at $800.00); Mary, 49; Daniel, 18, laborer; Joseph, 14; Mariah, 12; Ellen, 10. The record of those who died in Monroe County during the year 1850 ending 1 June 1850, lists Andrew Murray. born in Ireland. died February 1850 of fever sores and says that he had been sick for three years. The burials book of St. Mary's Church in Monroe, volume 11, page 2, says Andreas Moret, age 89 years, born in Hibernia, and residing in Monroe, died 9 January 1850. Death occurred 10 January 1850 with the Holy Sacraments. There is no headstone or documentation stating that Andrew was buried in St. Mary's Church Cemetery. According to the book, "Soldiers of the War of 1812 who Died in Michigan", by Alice Miller, Andrew Murray of Washtenaw County, whose wife was Mary, was a native of the Parish of Rosgray (Roscrea), King's County, Ireland, born in Scotland. Died 15 August 1859 at the age of 81 and is buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Northfield Township, Washtenaw County. He had five children. He came to America with an Irish regiment; deserted and joined the united States Army. After the war he settled on a farm in Monroe County. The book "Past and Present of Washtenaw County", by Samuel W. Beakes, 1906, pages 69 and 70, comments on Andrew Murray coming to America from Ireland to fight with an Irish Regiment in the war of 1812. Mr. Beakes states in his book that Andrew deserted and joined the United States Army in an article he wrote about his grandson, William W. Murray, (son of Daniel Murray). The headstone found in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Whitmore Lake Road, north of Ann Arbor, Lot 135, reads: Andrew Mury, A native of the parish of Rosgray, Kings County, Ireland.
