  Listed as DAR Patriot served in Revolution as private, in Penn. Insurrection as an ensign.-Pos. Samuel Jr in PA- 1st wife Mary (Polly) Littell, married Nov.19, 1771 in Essex Co. New Jersey. She died before 1806, unknown location. 2nd wife Mrs. Mary (Andrews) Baxter, married about 1806 in Steubenville, OH. She was born Feb.11,1776 unknown location, died Jan.15,1832 believe in OH possibly in Stark Co. Was one of first settlers Jackson Twp. Stark Co. OH circa 1807. Samuel died when oldest son, Joseph (2nd mar) 15 and Moses only 3. Possibly he stayed in Morris Co. NJ until he moved to Stark Co. (Might be with brothers Joseph & Jonas with other relatives in New York City in 1800, there are two Samuels there, no census records for NJ exist until 1830) Is the son of Recompence Stanbery 1710-1777 of Scotch Plains New Jersey.

  From notes of Rec Stanbery; Died at or near Canton, Ohio by the caving in of a quarry or excavation. Records at Morristown, NJ for 1804-1812 give wife and children of Samuel of the town of Mendham Mary Andrews was a widow, had son, William Baxter by first marriage.
  Possibly died in a cave in- Steubenville area had coal mines.
