Note: He sold his interest in his father's farm to his brother Samuel, Jan. 18, 1715/16. In 1761 he was Justice of the Peace in Somerset County, NJ. WFT 3 3756. EBENEZER TINGLEY and his son, JOSEPH TINGLEY, at Newark, Nov. 6, 1765, were appointed as receivers of the estate of William Saunders, "an Insolvent Debtor." (ARCH., Vol. XXIV, p. 674.) This would indicate their prominence and standing in the community. WHEREAS William Saunders, an Insolvent Debtor, and the major Part in Value of his Creditors, have presented their Petition to us Daniel Pierson and Jonathan Hampton, Esqrs; two of the Judges of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas for the County of Essex, praying, that the Estate of the said William Saunders, might be delivered to Ebenezer Tingley and Joseph Tingley, to receive and dispose of the same for the Use of all the Creditors of the said William Saunders, and that the Benefit of a late Act of the Governor, Council and General Assembly of the Colony of New-Jersey, entitled, "An Act for the Relief of Insolvent Debtors," might be granted unto him the said William Saunders. Notice is hereby given by the Petitioners, to all the Creditors of the said W illiam Saunders, that they be and appear before us the said Judges, or any two of the Judges of the said Court, at the House of Broughton Reynolds, at Elizabeth-Town, on the Ninth Day of December next, at three o'Clock in the Afternoon of the same Day, to shew Cause, if any they have, why the Estate of the said William Saunders, should not be delivered to the said Ebenezer Tingley and Joseph Tingley, pursuant to the Prayer of the said Petition, and the said William Saunders, be thereupon discharged, acc ording to the Directions of the said Act.

EBENEZER TINGLEY, SR., of PISCATAWAY His most disting. son was EBENEZER TINGLEY, b. ca. 1715-20, d. after 1756, who had sons, EBENEZER, JR., and JOSEPH, (post). In 1750, he made the invent. of the estate of GERSHOM DRAKE, of Pisc., who in his will dated 1750, July 13, mentions his "friend Samuel Dunn of Piscataway." (ARCH., Vol. XXX, p. 151.) In 1756, with Samuel Dunn, EBENEZER TINGLEY made the inventory of the estate of Jacob Van Deventer of Somerset County, N. J., Mar. 24, 1756, (ARCH., Vol. XXXII, p. 334). EBENEZER TINGLEY was a son-in-law of the JOSEPH GRAY, of W., undoubtedly being married to his daughter, EUNICE GRAY. Likewise, the origin of the name EUNICE RUNYON. EBENEZER TINGLEY was the associate of the Drake, Runyon, et al. families, who intermarried, for, when, 1750, Gershom Drake of Piscataway, made his will, REUNE RUNYON was a witness, and EBENEZER TINGLEY assisted in the inventory, (idem, supra).
