The afternoon was replete with thrills as the drivers sped around the track crashing into fences and through the sidelines into the automobiles of spectators. Ralph Keeper of Sylvania had probably the most serious accident of the afternoon when his car crashed through a barbed wire fence.   7/11/1927 Hobo Races Provide Many New Features Big Sunday Crowd Has Plenty of Entertainment Another big crowd recieved more than its money's worth at Sunday's hobo races at the Helm field north of the city. The feature of the day's entertainment was the 15 mile event in which 15 cars were entered. Only half of the starters survived and Burdette Lewis of Adrian led the field of finishers under the wire after a skillful exhibition of driving. For more than 20 laps eight cars were bunched for first place with each one appearing to have an equal chance for first money. Lewis apparently had plenty of speed in reserve, for during the last ten laps he steadily drew away from the field and finished nearly a lap to the good. Underwood and Briandine finished second and third. Hawes, Elliott and Underwood, all of Adrian were the winners of the five mile events, all of which produced enough competition to keep the crowd entertained. Horse races were interspersed in the automobile bill and a baseball game attracted a large portion of the crowd. A head on collision of two cars which was staged on the back stretch as an extra thriller came close to being too thrilling for Ted Engel who was piloting one of the machines. As he started to jump just before the moment of impact, his foot slipped and he fell beneath his car which lurched to the right, His shoulder was painfully bruised but he was otherwise uninjured and drove a car in the next race. Motion pictures of the day's varied activities were taken by Arthur A Palmer and will be shown at the American Legion carnival at the Armory in October.

The bucking bronco belonged to Asa Chase, a horse from the 101 Ranch circus, provided plenty of amusement for the crowd when it threw LaBlanch, the first rider. In about three jumps and then turned a complete somersault as it tripped over the lead rope. Ted Engle was the most successful rider.
