Grove Witnesses, Belle Cox of Adrian and Ted Engel Third marriage Herbert Ayers Obituary Mrs. Julia Frances Ayers, wife of Herbert Ayers of 309 Mulzer Avenue, died this morning at 1:15 o'clock in Bixby Hospital where she had been a patient since Wednesday. She was 65 years old. Mrs. Ayers was born Sept. 21, 1881 in Deerfield township and had been a lifelong resident of Lenawee county. She married Mr. Ayers Nov. 23 and he survives with two sons Theodore Engel of Adrian and LaVern Engel of Jackson, one daughter Mrs. Dorothy Hager of Antwerp, Ohio, two sisters Mrs. Lena Foster and Mrs. Mazzie Heiser of Detroit and one brother Max Standberry of Jackson. She was preceded in death by one stepdaughter Mrs. Bertha Dermyer, who died Sunday morning in Bixby Hospital. Mrs. Ayers was a member of the Woman's Relief Corps. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:30 pm in the Everiss Funeral Home and the burial will be in Lenawee Hills Memorial Park.

  Adrian Telegram 4/4/1902 STANSBURY-ENGEL The marriage of Miss Julia Stansbury and Mr Wm. Engel took lace at 4:30 Thursday afternoon, at St Stephen's parsonage, Rev Heyn officiating. The bride's parents live in Deerfield, and the groom is the son of Mr George Engel living south of the city. A wedding reception occured at the home of the groom's parents following the ceremony, and today they went to Deerfield to visit relatives and friends. They will reside on the farm of the groom's father near this city.

  10/2/1920 Saturday Mrs Byron Stanbery returned Wednesday from a visit with his daughter, Mrs Engle of Adrian. Two new suits in which the plantiffs ask decrees quieting title to farm lands were filed with the clerk of the circuit court today by Baldwin & Alexander. Edward Ries and others names James A Rogers and others defendants in one case to clear title to property in the township of Ogden, and William C Engel and others are plantiffs in the second case in which John E Heeler and others are defendants. The property in the Engel case is located in Madison township.
  11/16/1920 Tuesday Mr & Mrs W.C.Engle went to Deerfield Saturday to attend the burial service of D. Elwood Stanberry, an aviator in the American army who was killed at a flying field in England during the waar. Military burial was made in the Deerfield cemetery yesterday.

  8/8/1921 Monday Appeals Land Case- A appeal has been taken to the circuit court from the decision of the circuit court commissioner in the finding for the plantiff in the case of William C Engel against Jonnie Ornduff. The action was brought to obtain possession of certain lands in the township of Madison which the plaintiff asserted were illegally held by the defendant. The circuit court commisiioner found for the plaintiff and allowed costs, and it is from that decision the defendant appeals. James H Cornellius and Leland F Bean were the attornies.

  5/20/1922 Saturday Notice of Mortgage Sale Whereas, William C Engel and wife, Julia F Engel, of Adrian, Michigan, made and executed a certain mortgage bearing date the 15th of October, 1920, to Thomas G Engel and Mary Engel, his wife, of the same place, which was recorded in the office of the Register of Deeds of the County of Lenawee, on the 21 st day of October, AD, 1920, at 3:10 o'clock in the afternoon, in Liber 211 of mortgages on page, 506, and whereas, the amount claimed to be due upon said mortgage, at the date of this notice, is the sum of three thousand, two hundred and fifty five and 50/100 dollars, and no suit or proceeding has been instituted at law to recover the debt now remaing sected there by,or any part thereof,and Whereas, default has been made in the payment of the money secured said mortgage, whereby the power of sale contained therein has become operative.   10/9/1931 Woman Struck by Car Mrs Julia Engel of Division Street was injured slightly about 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon when she was struck by an automobile driven by Roy Leland at the intersection of Main and Maumee Streets. Mrs Engel was walking east on Maumee Street and Mr Leland was driving south on Main Street when the accident happened. Mrs Engle suffered a painful bruise on one leg but was otherwise uninjured. Members of the city police force called Dr A D Clark who gave Mrs Engel first aid treatment.

  3/18/1932 Granted Divorce Decree A decree of divorce on grounds of cruelty was granted by Judge G Arthur Rathbun in the Lenawee circuit court Thursday afternoon to Mrs Julia Engel of Onstead in her suit against William C Engel. The decree was not contested. A property settlement was incorporated in the decree. James H Baker was attorney for the plaintiff and Clark & Bean represented the defendant.
