William Tucker Coolidge was born in south N.Y. near the state line, April 30, 1838. While still a child his parents moved to Titusville, Penn., where they lived until William was 14, when they again moved and this time to what was the far west, Edgewood, Clayton County, Iowa. Here, William grew to manhood, married and spent there and near by the rest of his life until six years the coming July when he with his wife came to home with their son George who was then and is now living in Graettinger. When quite a young man, he was wedded to Mrs. Mariah Wiltse of Edgewood, Iowa. To this union was born one child, Geo. Coolidge of this place.
When about 21 years of age he was converted and united with the Methodist church, which church he has remained a loyal member ever since. His wife died five years ago April 25th in the same home that he passed away in. He had been in poor health for the last four years although able to attend to some light business the most of the time. He leaves beside his son Geo., four full brothers and four half brothers, also two half sisters.
Thursday, June 23rd after having rang the first bell at the church for the weekly prayer meeting, and near 8 o'clock he was attacked with heart failure while sitting in the vestibule of the church awaiting the time he should ring the second bell for the evening service. He was carried to his home where he passed into the future world at 9 o'clock, a little more than an hour after the attack.
The funeral was held from the M.E. church June 26th, 1904 at 10:30 a.m. by Rev. E.L. Stevens who took for his Text Ecct. 7-8.
