Abigail's obituary, Sycamore True Republican, 9 Mar 1904: "Another of DeKalb county's pioneers passed to her reward on Friday evening, when Mrs. Abigail Crossett died after an illness of two years, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ellen R. Rose, on East High Street." "Brief services were held from the home on Sunday afternoon at 4p.m., Rev. C. S. Moore, assisted by Rev. B. M. Southgate, officiating. The remains were taken the same afternoon to Wellman, Ia., to be laid beside those of her husband." "Abigal Perkins was born in Washington County, N. Y., May 9, 1815.She was the daughter of Sylvester and Ruth Hooker Perkins, and was the youngest of nine children." "When she was six years old the family removed to Warsaw, N. Y.,where on June 21, 1838, she was married to Jacob R.Crossett. In 1848 they moved to DeKalb County, Ill., settling near Cortland,and becoming active members of the Sycamore M. E. Church." "Removing to Iowa County, IA, in 1868, there they continued to reside until the death of Mr. Crossett on January 21, 1885. Four years later, Mrs. Crossett with her granddaughter, Miss Nellie. A.Crossett, returned to Illinois and have since lived with Mrs.Crossett's daughter, Mrs. Ellen R. Rose." "To Mr. and Mrs. Crossett were born three children, Ellen Ruth Rose, of Sycamore, Martial Edson, of Iowa County, Ia., and Elzie Augustus, of Iowa City, Ia., all of whom survive."
