Notes
a. Note:   N106 The family of Patty Welch is known only by deduction at this time (7/04). Patty died when Abby was only 4 years old. The 1850 census shows Abby living on the farm of a Mr. Sherwood who is a farmer and innkeeper. With her is Dioclesian Welch, farmer. It is supposed that Abby is being cared for by him while her father is away working at lumbering. Dioclesian Welch, in 1860 a stage driver, is one of three Welches in Susquehanna Co. in the 1860 census who were supposedly born in CT. The others being John A., a farmer, and Sally, a nurse. In 1850 Sally is apparently a maid in an Inn and is shown as born in PA, not CT. When Dioclesean dies in 1862, his funeral is held at the home of John Welch. The two men are one year in age apart. Dioclesean and John are probably siblings. Martha (Patty) Welch probably was their sister. If we eliminate Sally and look to 1810 census in CT we can find John Welch with two boys under 10 and a girl under 10.
