c. Note:   N845 There are several stories concerning the origins of Thomas Mague, none of which are verifiable. One story related to his Grandson, Roscoe Mague, was that he was shipwrecked on the New England coast as an infant, and was subsequently adopted by a Mague family.
Another story reported by his Great Granddaughter, Barbara Peabody, was that he was abducted from a mansion and never saw his parents again.
Yet another story related by Barbara Peabody, as passed down from her Grandmother, was that originally, Thomas' name was spelled McHugh. It was spelled incorrectly on civil war records as Mague. In order to collect his pension, he retained the spelling Mague.«s97 RTF in my files»
d. Note:   N874 On December 10, 1857, Thomas Mague filed bankruptcy over his bakery business in Killingly, CT. There had been an economic depression that year and many small businesses went under and Thomas' was no exception. One of the witnesses on the actual document was Daniel Campbell. Would that have been the same Daniel Campbell who was Laura Ann's younger brother, born in 1830?«s83 email 6/29/2002»
