Notes
a. Note:   l describes the latter as his second wife. Mary Louisa consistently reported on the census that her mother was born in England. There was a gap of as much as six years between her birth and that of the next child.
She is listed as one of Jacob's children in his will, married to Samuel Wells, but she never appears in the census. He evidently had helped her earlier, as he wills her $5 instead of the $100 each willed ot the other daughters who reached adulthood and had children (and evidently were all still living; he specifically bequeaths to their heirs if they weren't still living). He says that is to equalize what he had given or done for them already. Then he split his residual estate between his daughters, who explicitly included Mary Louise the wife of Sameul Wells.
She was married in 1880, and never appeared in a census, so could conceivably have been born before the others and be a daughter of the elusive first wife?
Mary E. Wells in 1880 census. Mary L. in 1900 census.
In 1900 it says her father was born in Germany, and her mother in England. 1880 census parents' origins unreadable, but indexed as father born in Germany and mother in England.
Born August 1831, 2 or 3. married 43 years. age given as 43, same as husband who was b Nov 1832.
In the 1880 and 1900 census, she reported that her father was born in Switzerland and her mother born in England. In the 1880 census I couldn't read it and that's what is indexed. She was apparently dead by 1910 when her husband lived with two of his children. Atleast two of her sons did not marry or married late.
An old photo of her oldest daughter shows that she shared Mary Anne's dark coloring.
She was not living in 1910; her husband lived in Steelton with two of his children, a married daughter and unmarried son. In 1900 they lived in Steelton.
Samuel Wells, 28 in 1860, Rolling Mill, lived in Harrisburg Ward 6. Mary 28. Emma 3. Charles 5/12
  Death record 28844 Steelton, 1910 Mar 20.
