Notes
a. Note:   ld be someone who passed through and ended up somewhere else; alot of that went on in that time, and it makes some lines of the Dehart family who spent time in Pennsylvania impossible to trace (though in that case one knows who were the family group, just can't establish the link, frustrating if you are in one of those lines.) People had to buy or sell land, die and leave probate records (usually didn't happen), marry or have children christened in any given place to leave a record of their existence in that place, until the first census in 1790. Ramey researchers know of Catherine, have a record of her marriage to Samuel Dehaven and her children, one individual helpfully sent me a family group sheet, but have no clue who were her parents. It is likely she was born less than twenty years before the birth of her first child. The name may be a variation on another, like Remy. Alot of people believe it was Ramsey!

Samuel DeHaven was the son of William DeHaven and Hannah (Cramer) DeHaven. He was born in 1746 in Whitpain Township, Philadelphia (now Montgomery) County, Pennsylvania. About 1771 he married Catherine Ramey. Samuel DeHaven lived in Whitpain Township as a tanner until 1774 when for $1675 he bought 150 acres from Edward Roberts and wife Ellin, "Messuage or tenement and plantation situate in Horsham," bounded by lands of John Adamson, John Williams, Jacob Schweitzer, Edward Bright and Hannah Foulkes. He sold 8 acres contiguous to lands of Paul Dowlin to Paul Dowlin, neighbor of Jacob Wright. Samuel bought other lands so that in 1811-1813 he was taxed for 225 acres. He was referred to as both tanner and yeoman. Until his sons became of age, Samuel and his brother were the only Dehavens in Horsham Township. He was "Samuel DeHaven of Horsham" at the time of his death. On April 26, 1802, John Wright of London Britain Twp., Chester Co., sold 198 acres to Samuel DeHaven of Horsham Twp. and Jesse DeHaven of Gwyned Twp. Samuel later deeded this to Jesse, his son. [NOTE; this Jesse is the one who married Magdalena Mary PLUCK.] War service - as a private, 7th class, under Capt. David Dowlin, Samuel DeHaven was ordered to march out of Horsham 13 Aug. 1780; he was also in Capt. David Marpole's Fifth Company, First Battalion, Philadelphia County Militia, private 7th class, on the undated lists marching out and returning. Jacob Wright, father of his future son-in-law, was in the same Company, first class. p. 366 [Bk 5, p. 313] Samuel DeHaven of Horsham Tp., Will 13 Jul 1819-24 Jul 1821, (wf) Catherine; (s) Abraham; (gr-son) Isaac; (4 daus.) not named; (Exs) son, David DeHaven and son-in-law, Jacob WRIGHT. 1 2
