  SEveral of his descendants live along the road out of Newark near the Pennsylvania line, or did in 1987. My parents found Gus living across from the Smith farm homsetead on teh west side of the road out of Newark.
  Jim McVey, a cousin of Gus's, told me that there was one Smith homestead on either side of the road. My parents took pictures of the William Henry Smith (Originally James P. Smith) home - it is still there. It had been built because James' wife and Mary Dehaven Smith didn't get along.
