Notes
a. Note: ather. Emaline was born about 1727 in Maryland, and her mother, Elizabeth Riker, lived with Emaline and her husband in the 1850 census.
John Riker was living in Cecil County Maryland in the 1820 and 1830 census - and not in 1840. He is the only Riker I find there at the right time for Emaline to have been born there. He had a daughter who was under 5 in 1930, and a wife the right age to be Elizabeth.
Connections to Frederick Richter/ Riker are speculative at present. I do not want to see or hear myself cited 10 years from now as a definitive source that this idea is fact, though it does seem likely. See another theory of John Richer's possible origins below. There were other Rikers in northern Lancaster County, around Philadelphia, and around Baltimore. However, Frederick's family were immediately around them, in East Nottingham, southern Lancaster County, and Cecil County, and it's the only Riker family that was.
1820 census shows a man atleast 45, a female between 26 and 44, and several children. 1830 census shows a man 60-69, a woman 40-49, and a number of children, the youngest a female age 0 to 4. If the woman was Elizabeth Riker, she was 40 in 1830, 30 in 1820, and 60 in 1850. She was clearly still having children in 1830. Emaline would have been the little girl. John Riker must have been between 50 and 59 in 1820, and between 60 and 69 in 1830. This makes him born between 1761 and 1770. They lived in the 4th ED of Cecil County.
They had six children in 1820, and seven children in 1830. Only one child, the little girl, had been born since 1820, and only one more was under 15. Two boys were in their twenties.
Both censuses - Election district 4, Cecil County, Maryland.

Nov 12, 1824. Bill of sale, recorded at Cecil County Court (Land Records) JS 22 & 47, 1824-25, MSA CE 133-49. p 0275-6. John Riker of Cecil County, Maryland, sold to Samuel Rowland and Co, for $100, 1 brown cow with white face. two feather beds and bedding. One case of drawers. Four bedsteads. One walnut table. One cupboard. All the residue of my household and kitchen furniture, not above numerated, all which property is now in my person.
John S. Ernst? and James C. McDowell were witnesses. John Riker signed with his name, and the word "Seal" with a curlycue squiggle drawn around it.
Two tax records found for John Riker in E.D. 4, Cecil County, for mid 1830's ending 1837; these indicate the man had very little. 62 whatevers in the last two columns (column headers unreadable), only a couple of others on these pages had anything near that little. HSCC explained that the column titles are acres, value, personal. He has no acres or value. He was taxed on the value of personal property such as household items or animals he might have owned. He does not own any land. He might have been renting land in the 4th ED or he might have rented living quarters and boarded the cow. I don't see any sign of what he did for a living.
Current Day District 4 is "Fair Hail" district in northeast corner of Cecil County. However the general picture of the associations and movements of this family make what today is District 6, Rising Sun, seem more likely.
Also found at Cecil County Archives web site, by Google, two marriages, most likely for John Riker's daughters, though no proof of that. Thomas Kennard and Elizabeth Riker, Oct 31 1837 in Cecil County, p389, and Benjamin McIlvee to Mary Ann Riker 1832 Nov 20 in Cecil County p 358. An 1877 version that looks very similar, makes the Plesant section or the Calvert District look as likely
Elizabeth Riker the probable daughter married Thomas Kennard Oct 31, 1837 in Cecil Co, MD; then the two of them were buried in the West Nottingham Presbyterian Church cemetery, located in Colora, Cecil Co, Maryland.
Thomas Moore's parents are also buried in the West Nottingham Presbyterian Church cemetery.
  1810 John Richard Martic, Lancaster, Pennsylvania 1 male under 10 1 male 26-44 2 female under 10 (notably not in John's family by 1820) 1 female 26-44.
Found no land records associated with him in that place. Martic is immediately north of the town of Drumore. Tax records are on film and must be ordered from LDS.
=================================== Here is another theory of John's possible origins. Note that it requires that someone last known in Philadelphia went without explanation to live in northwestern Cecil County.

Dora, In rechecking the Riker message board I note your 10/15.2005 message looking for the family of John Riker of Cecil County, Maryland. I do not remember whether or not in 2005 I responded, but in case I did not I suspect that he was the John Riker who was born in 1780 to Abraham and Sarah (Rousby) and is recorded as having "gone to Philadelphia". This is from James Riker's 1853 "The Annals of Newtown" and my 2004 "The Rikers... Their Island, Homes, Cemetery, and Early Genealogy". You might find his trail in Philadelphia records.   A John Riker married Jane Connelly in Philadelphia. Jan 20, 1798. This appears to be a mistake as Christ Church Philadelphia, Vol III, PA Archives, 2nd series, actual book, online at Google Books, has John Riker and Mary Connelly married May 11, 1803. Ed Nutt suggests below that a John Riker of the New York family, b 1780, went to Philadelphia. This fits - it is possible the two boys in their 20's in 1830 were born to a marriage that occurred in 1798. In the 1820 census it appears that the children were born after 1805, consistent with an 1803 marriage. Elizabeth would be a second marriage.

(Just above at same church, Jan 20, 1798, Mary Connelly married William Moore - likely a coincidence.)
Elizabeth Riker the mother in law of Emaline Moore in 1850, was born about 1790, and could not have been the mother of John Riker's older children. However it does look likely that this was a second marriage.
