Note:   Conflicting records - 1 record shows "Joshua Bayliff" marrying Mary Curtis on April 11, 1798 with a surety bond placed by Seth Curtis in Berkeley Co, WV. 1 record shows "John Bailiff" marrying Mary Curtis on April 11, 1798 in Berkeley Co, WV. ---------- 1804 Hinshaw: He and his wife, Mary, came to Ohio in 1804, locating where Cincinnati now stands. At that time the place contained a few houses, and only one business house, which was a dry goods and grocery store combined. Here they remained for about one year, and then they moved to Ceaser's Creek Township.
  From Broadstone's History of Greene County, OH - "...ever since the days of settlement of the Painter's Run region of the county, the Thomas, Beeson, and Bayliff families have been represented in that neighborhood. It was in 1802 that Joshua and Margaret left their home in the vicinity of Winchester, VA and came down the Ohio River, having fitted out a flat boat at Wheeling, and stopped at the then mere river hamlet of Cincinnati, where they remained for about a year, at the end of which they came up here into the valley of the Little Miami..."
  They were members of the Society of Friends. Just north of Winchester, VA is the Hopewell Monthly Meeting house, built in the mid-1700s. In 1792, Joshua Bailiss witnessed a wedding there. In 1789, Thomas Bailiff witnessed a wedding there.
  1816 - Joshua buys land in Clinton Co, OH just across the Greene Co. line and sells it in 1819.
  1817 - Marriage to Ann (Craven) Haines.
  1836 - Moves to Allen Co, OH selling his land in Clinton and buying in Allen Co.
