Note: Jehue's father was probably Henry Poplin, b. bef.1775 to George Poplin, of NC. There were 6 Poplin families in Montgomery County in the 1810 Census, all living close to each other. Census records before 1850 only listed head of household, not spouse & children.

There were 6 Poplin families in Montgomery County in the 1810 Census, all living close to each other. Census records before 1850 only listed head of household, not spouse & children. John Alexander Poplin, who would be Jehue's brother, born abt.1803 had a son James Alston.....Jehue's son, William also had a son James Alston. NC Census; West Pee Dee Twp. shows Allsa Poplin, Jeremiah, Jesse Sr., Richard Sr., David, Jehu and John all living in close proximity. 1850 Alexander Co.,NC; household #168: Jehu 47, Lucy 49, Betsey 24, William 20, Rhody 16, Rebecca 13, Jehu 10, Mary 6 Also in Alexander Co. was Henry Poplin 31 and wife Mary 33. The 1860 US Census, Meig's Co., TN listed Jehu and Lucy with all their children. Also listed is Lucy E., born 1853 in NC, their granddaughter (James Alston's sister). Richard Poplin, age 61 was also in TN in 1860, but in Perry Co.,TN
From Frank Poplin: "A cousin, (J.C. Pettit, grandson of Lucy Poplin, Jehue's daughter) in Decatur, TN, said that he remembered a Great-Aunt Rebecca Poplin Hawk and a great-uncle, Jehue Poplin coming to visit his grandmother. There are records of them in Meigs Co. in 1860 and 1880." Rebecca Poplin Hawk was Rebecca Cooley, William Poplin's wife. William must have died or left her before Sept. 2, 1877, when she married William Hawk. Also from Frank Poplin: "I visited J.C. Pettit, a distant cousin in Meigs Co.,TN and some other cousins there and they said Jehue Poplin (Jehue Sr's son;William's brother) used to come visit their grandmother, Lucy Poplin Pettit (James Alston's sister) and she called him "Uncle J." and that Rebecca Poplin Hawk use to come up from Chatanooga Tn to visit, so based on these facts, I say William Poplin from Meigs Co.,TN who served in Capt. A.F. Boggs Co...... during the Civil War and the son of Jehue Poplin (born 1804) is the father of James Alston Poplin."
