Notes
a. Note:   N259 The 1850 Claiborne County, Tn census shows Jacob, age 33, born in Virginia, as a farmer with $100 worth of real estate. "Old Time Tazewell" by Mary Hansard, page 219: "Jacob Meyers, Sr., oldest son of the said Henry Meyers, Sr., owns and lives on a farm on Little Barren Creek about seven miles West of Tazewell. He has a nice residence on said farm and plenty of the necessaries of life to make him comfortable. He has been running a saw and grist mill for many years and was well spoken of as a good honest citizen. He has always been notable for the great interest that he has taken in Sabbath Schools and also in the cause of temperance, but he has reached his eightieth year now and is unable to take an interest in the affairs of life as he has formerly done. But he still advocates what he believes in to be right, regardless of consequences. He has been twice married; his former wife Rachel Ousley, Daughter of Stephen Ousley, Sr.. They raised seven sons and four daughters: John, William, and Daniel. Those three sons were soldiers in the Union Army, and were captured by the Confederates and died in prison in Andersonville, Georgia. Their father is allowed a pension from the government. ---Jacob Meyers' second wife was Eliza Wells Killian, a widow lady. " The Cumberland Gap Progress, June 27, 1888: "Lands for Sale. No. 40. Jacob Meyers, mill stone quarry on Barren Creek 7 miles from town, $250, 1/2 down, 16 acres." Jacob is buried in Head of Barren Cemetery, Claiborne County, TN. Jacob apparently was a Justice of the Peace. He wrote a document dated Oct. 6, 1864 for Sally Johnson (Sarah Jane Fortner/Johnson) stating he was a Justice of the Peace. In 1900, William J. Neely and Eliza Neely are living with Jacob identified as grandchildren. They are grandchildren of his second wife and technically are Jacob's step grandchildren.
