Notes
a. Note:   Mary Kinlen/Kindlin appears in the 1870, 1880 and 1900 censuses in Pittsburgh. She was born in Ireland, but married after her immigration (see below).
At the 1900 census she is a 69 yr. old widow, Mary "Kindlin," renting a home at 12 Enoch St., Pittsburgh. Her birth was given as August, 1831. Four children were living with her, James and 3 unmarried daughters. However, all the dates of birth of the children are inconsistent with information in the 1870 & 1880 censuses! Only Mary's birth date is close to what's been given before. I've used the 1870 & 1880 info as I believe it was more accurate when given (especially since some of the children wouldn't even have been born by earlier census dates, given the birth dates she gave in 1900!) She stated she's immigrated in 1848 (she would have been 17-18 yrs old). She'd been married 40 years (although she was a widow at this time & clearly had married prior to 1860) and mothered 7 children, all of whom were still living at the time of the census.
According to St. Mary's cemetery records, Pittsburgh, Mary "Kinlin" died of "nervous prostration" in early December, 1901. She was 67 years, 3 months and 10 days of age, giving her a birth date in about Aug., 1834, some 3 years later than previous information indicated. She was buried 7 Dec. 1901 in section D, lot 116 along with her husband, father-in-law and several children. Like her husband in 1897, her funeral was handled by Flannery Brothers funeral home and St. Brigid's Church.
I visited St. Mary's Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh, PA on 18 April 1998 and found the "Kindlin" burials. There are 4 large monuments on the site; Mary's grave is marked with a large, pale gray stone "couch" tomb, matching that of her husband. The dates inscribed are the dates shown on this genealogy. She is also mentioned on an obelisk-shaped stone at the same site as Mary, wife of John, "a Native of Co. Louth parish of Balley__ne, Ireland." (Could this be Ballymakenny?)
