Notes
a. Note:   Ella Houlihan is shown in the 1900 census as "Ellen C.", a 7 year old student living in the home of her parents.
The Pittsburgh Marriage License Registry Index lists the registration of Ella G. Houlihan and John J. Kane in 1915, Vol. 91, page 659, series J13950.
Ella Houlihan Kane was the closest sibling to brother John J. Houlihan. FX Houlihan remembers her fondly as a nice lady, very Irish! She liked both brothers John J. and Charlie who, having married against the wishes of their mother Barbara, must have been on the "outs" with the family as a whole. Her "public name" was "Elinor." She was the founder and president of the Democratic Women's Guild of Allegheny Co. and served on the Democratic National Committee for multiple years. Her daughter, Rita, calls her the first feminist she ever knew!
