a. Note:   Son of Thomas & Sarah (Langdon). John J. Kane was elected to the PA State Legislature in 1932 and served one term. He was then elected to the City Council of Pittsburgh, followed by 6 consecutive terms (24 years) as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., PA. He was responsible for building the first major airport in Pittsburgh and John J. Kane Hospital in Allegheny Co. is named in his honor. At the 1944 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, he made the seconding speech for Harry Truman's nomination for Vice President.
  The Carnegie Central Library in Oakland/Pittsburgh has extensive material on him, per his daughter Ruth (Kane) Burns.
  He died of a cerebral thrombosis and Parkinson's disease at McGuire Memorial Hospital in Daugherty, Beaver, Co.
