Notes
a. Note:   Elizabeth Lenz was baptized 17 July 1826 at Roemisch-Katholi (the Roman Catholic Church), Baumholder, Rheinland, Prussia. Perhaps the church was Pfarrkirche St. Simon und Judas Thaddäus. She married there as well and immigrated to the US in about 1850 with her husband and two children. Ship passenger records indicate that she was 24 years of age at the time of her immigration.
Her third child was born in Cincinnati, OH suggesting that the Guttendorfs settled in that town upon arrival in the US or that they had relatives there. At the 1850 census of Cincinnati, there was a Peter Lenz, age 48 of Germany living with his wife Magdalene along with two children, all born in Germany. Was this her father and, perhaps, a second wife?
At the 1900 census, Elizabeth reported that she'd born 12 children, 9 of whom were still living at the time of the census. She outlived her husband by about 5 years and is buried with him in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh. Cemetery records indicate that she died at age 76 years, 19 days of asthma, bronchitis and exhaustion from the heat. She was buried 10 July 1902 in section W, lot 340. The funeral was held from St. Augustine's Church, a German church, located at Butler and 37th, Pittsburgh. Her upright tombstone, of dark gray stone, is next to her husband's and inscribed: "Unsere Mutter (our mother), Elisabeth Gutendorf, Geb. 18 June 1826, Gest. 7 July 1902." The death record lists her parents as Peter and Barbara "Lene."
