Note: J.J. Houlihan, Jr. appears as an almost-two year old in the 1920 census, living with his parents at 6941 Bennett, Pittsburgh. John J., Jr. drowned in a diving accident at a city swimming pool in Pittsburgh in 1929. Mary Ethel O'Keefe Rafferty recalls that it was at a K. of C. picnic at North Park. His funeral was held from the family home on Duffield St., attended by his Houlihan grandparents, David and Barbara from Philadelphia, among others - the only time grandson F.X. Houlihan ever saw his Houlihan grandparents. John was buried in grave 1, lot 157, Section E of the Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh, PA on September 11, 1929 in the Gallagher family plot, along with his Gallagher grandparents. His mother was buried there in the same grave 31 years later. On 19 April 1998 I visited his grave and found only one marker at the site, that of his mother, Kathryn (Gallagher) Houlihan. A large, pale gray stone cemetery marker, level with the ground, marks the ownership of the entire plot and is engraved "John C. Gallagher" (this John's grandfather).
