Notes
a. Note:   Chauncey Thomas Wheeler was known as C. Thomas Wheeler and "Tommy." His social security number was 553-05-0265. As an adult he was 5'9" and 200 lbs., with brown hair and hazel eyes.
Born in Fargo, ND in 1905, Tommy lived for one year in Florence, Italy (1908-1909) with his mother, aunt and uncle (the Wear's) before coming to Bloomington, California with his mother in September, 1909. He moved with his family to Rialto, CA, then to Los Angeles in 1915 after his father died. He graduated from Los Angeles High School in the Westwood section of the city 29 June 1923; during his high school years he injured his back while broad-jumping, spending one year in a body cast.
In 1927 he graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in economics; he'd been a member Zeta Psi fraternity there. After graduation, he worked for the Board of Fire Underwriters of the Pacific and Edward Brown & Sons, general insurance agency (later Swett & Crawford insurance brokers) in Los Angeles. In December, 1934 he took a position with Bailey H. Patterson Insurance Agency in Riverside, Riverside Co., CA at $1,920 per year and moved to Riverside with his mother, Gertrude Thomas Wheeler.
He bought a house at 3382 Mulberry St. in Riverside in December, 1934. He met Priscilla Jean Howell at a pre-Christmas Junior Aid Bazaar in Riverside in the late 1930's. They married in April 1941 and lived briefly in the house on Mulberry St. They moved into their new home on Glenwood Drive, Riverside in November, 1941.
During the war, Tommy worked as a Senior Inspector, Intelligence Section, for the Army Air Force Material Command in North Hollywood, CA/Burbank Area office from June 1942 - 15 February 1944 as a fire protection inspector for defense plants. His starting salary was $3200 per year. During this time, he and Priscilla and Gertrude Thomas Wheeler moved from Riverside (they rented out the Glenwood Drive house) to 10857 Morrison St., North Hollywood, CA. It was while living at this location that son Robert Thomas was born on 16 Oct. 1942 at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital. They moved back to the Glenwood Drive house in 1944, although they apparently lived at 4484 Fifth St., Riverside (next to Priscilla's mother, Dilly?), for a time; daughter Peggy was born in July of that year. He then resumed working for Bailey H. Patterson agency; in 1951 he was given a 20% ownership in the agency.
He was a devoted husband, caring for his wife at home during almost 10 years of her illness, then visiting her daily at Community Convalescent Center in Riverside until her death. He suffered a stroke (left cerebral infarction) while shooting skeet near Loma Linda, CA and died several days later without regaining consciousness at Loma Linda Medical Center, Loma Linda, CA., 13 days after his wife's death. He was cremated and his remains buried at Olivewood Memorial Park, Riverside, CA next to those of his wife, in section H-2, grave #264.
