a. Note:   At the 1880 census, age 15, John is listed as a "messenger boy" and that he had attended school during the census year.
  John F. Kinlen appears in the 1890 Pittsburgh Directory as a "gas fitter," living at 28 Davis St., Pittsburgh (his brother Henry lived at 26 Davis). John F. Kinlen and his family lived at 11 Carbon Alley, Pittsburgh in a rented home at the time of the 1900 census. He and wife Annis had been married 13 years and had 5 daughters living at the time of the census. His occupation was "steam fitter."
  At a later date, John Kinlen & his family lived on Mt. Washington in Pittsburgh. Mary Ethel O'Keefe Rafferty recalls visiting their home often. He he used to take the incline down to work in Pittsburgh, either at Pittsburgh Plate Glass or Pittsburgh Paint. He went to mass at St. Mary's of the Point.
  At the 1930 census he was 65, widowed and a patient at the "Pittsburgh City Homes and Hospitals," Mayview, South Fayette Twp., Allegheny Co., PA. No further information is given about him.
  According to Mary Ethel O'Keefe Raferty John F. Kinlen was buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, Pittsburgh, although I've found no record. His family was, allegedly, not Catholic. Perhaps he was buried at this hospital's cemetery, if one exists.
