Notes
a. Note:   he signed her name "Catherine Gallagher Houlihan:" she apparently used Kathryn during her later adult years. Veronica may have been a confirmation name.
While she died in Detroit, Kathryn's remains were returned to Pittsburgh. She was buried 19 August 1950 in grave 1, lot 157, Section E of Calvary Cemetery along with her parents and other members of the Gallagher family, as well as her son, John J. Houlihan, Jr. On 19 April 1998 I visited this Section and lot at Calvary. A long, narrow gray stone cemetery marker, level with the ground, marks the ownership of the entire plot and is engraved in relief "John C. Gallagher." Only one tombstone is present at the site, that of daughter Kathryn (Gallagher) Houlihan. The headstone had tumbled from its base and was firmly embedded in the earth. I met with cemetery management that day and reported the problem; a work order was taken and the stone was lifted and placed onto its base. I spoke with John Mader of the cemetery work crew on 23 April 1998 about preventing a future toppling and he advised that a masonry adhesive would be applied that morning. Within the hour I again visited the gravesite and found that the tombstone had indeed been replaced on its base, the stone cleaned and a fresh bead of adhesive could be seen where the upright stone meets the base. The stone appears whole and undamaged and is clearly legible.
Note:   Kathryn Veronica Gallagher Houlihan was the eldest of two surviving children of John C. Gallagher and Ella Kinlen Gallagher. Her name is shown in the 1900 census as "Katherine R.;" in a 1936 letter s
