Notes
a. Note:   r parents are each listed and the sponsors were "Jer. Kennedy" and "Anne Keating." Kate appears in the 1850 census with her parents and siblings, living with her grandparents, the "McCarty's," in Donegal Township, Butler Co., PA. She was born in Ireland about 1842 and immigrated with her family at age 6 in 1848 (according to a statement made in the 1900 census by Catherine's sister Bridget/Ann). Catherine was 8 years old at the time of the 1850 census. She next appears in the 1860 census married to Edward "Ned" Rodgers (her husband's name had been provided by J.J. Houlihan in the early 1960's.) Ned and Catherine were living in Mifflin Township, Allegheny Co., PA and appear to have been newlyweds, Catherine being only 18, and no children had as yet been born. Her husband was a coal miner, also Irish-born. Living with them was her brother-in-law, 23 year old Francis Rodgers and living next door were Ned's brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Isbella Rodgers; Francis and Hugh were also coal miners. Catherine (Houlihan) Rodgers and her husband Edward "Ned" appear in the 1880 census living on Washington Pike, Pittsburgh. Ned was a 40 year old coal miner, born in Ireland of Irish-born parents, as was his wife. They had 4 children at this time, the two youngest of which were in school. Neither Edward, Catherine or son John appear in the 1900 census index; I located the death of her husband Edward in Pittsburgh death records in 1900; Kate's whereabouts after 1880 is not known at this time. I was unable to locate an obituary in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette or the Pittsburgh Press for Katherine/Catherine/Kate.
Note:   Known as "Kate," Catherine Houlihan, the eldest daughter of John and Margaret Houlihan was baptized "Catherine Wholehan" at the Roman Catholic Church at Charleville, Co. Cork, Ireland 12 Dec 1841. He
