Note: er uncle, and Clara Stefanowska (per church records). She first appears in the US census records in 1900 as a 3 yr. old, living with her parents and siblings at 782 Hastings, Detroit. Her name is shown as "Lora." She again is listed in the 1910 census at age 13, living with her father and siblings, her mother having died 2 yrs. before. This time her name is shown as "Laura." According to brother Alphonse, Lillian was often called Laura as a child - her baptism and wedding records show the name as Leocadia (the Polish form of Lillian) - and that she used the name "Laura" until she went to work at her Uncle Julius' cigar factory. He reports that she was an expert cigar maker - "the best." She later worked with sister Constance at the Dodge Brothers automobile plant, affixing flannel interior door panels. Many years later, when the plant referred to as "Dodge Main" closed, her niece Barbara found her mother and aunt's employment records in the plant vault. Her marriage to Ladislaus (Walter) Lesinski is recorded in St. Josephat Church records. Witnesses were Constantia Ewald, her sister, & Antonius Zielinski. Grandniece Mary Beth (Houlihan) Wheeler fondly remembers Aunt Lilly coming to the Houlihan house and taking charge of the household when her mother, Marion (Ritter), was in the hospital having children or just when she needed help. She especially remembers her at the ironing board and kitchen stove! The Lesinski's lived for many years on Ward St. at Compass St. in Detroit; her sister Anne and family lived within shouting distance on Ward St. After the death of her husband Walter, Lillian and daughter Mildred moved briefly to Redford, Michigan, then to Royal Oak for many years and later to Clinton Township, MI where Lillian died at age 102. She is buried with her husband, Walter, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Section 10, Lot 424, grave 5. Services were held at St. Michael's Church, funeral arrangements being handled by the Wasik Funeral Home, Warren, MI.
Note: Known as "Lillie," Lillian Ewald was baptized Leocadia Ejwalt 24 January 1897 at St. Josephat's Church, 691 E. Canfield, Detroit, 5 days after her birth. Her godparents were Julius Ewald (Edwaldt), h
