Notes
a. Note:   g house" on the census report and reports herself born in PA, with parents born in Bavaria.
By 1900 she and David were living on Natrona St. in their own home and she is shown as mother of 9 children, 8 of whom were living at the time (daughter Bertha Philomena had died in 1884 & son David wasn't born until 1903). In 1917, she and her husband and the unmarried children moved to eastern PA.
According to F.X. Houlihan, Barbara never wanted sons John J. or Charles to marry and, when they did, she did not attend their weddings or accept their wives. (see Notes: John J. Houlihan)
According to her obituary and St. Mary's Cemetery records, Pittsburgh, Barbara Guttendorf Houlihan died 13 December 1961 at Duncannon, Perry Co, PA. She was age 103 years and died from carcinoma at the Williams' Convalescent Home in Duncannon (near Harrisburg), owned by her granddaughter, Estella O'Brian Williams. She had been a resident of the nursing home for 5 years after fracturing her hip. She was buried 16 Dec. 1961 next to her husband and daughter, May Agnes, at St. Mary's Cemetery, Lawrenceville section, Pittsburgh, Section C, lot 52, grave 2. A requiem mass was held at St. Bernadette Church, Pittsburgh. On 18 April 1998 I visited St. Mary's Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Pittsburgh. I located a single memorial tablet there with both David and his wife's names inscribed.
Year of birth is 1856 per 1900 census; 1858 appears to have been more accurate, however, given her obituary.

Note:   Barbara Guttendorf married David Houlihan about 1876 and by the 1880 census they were living on Butler St. in Pittsburgh, 2 houses away from the rest of the Houlihan family. She is listed as "keepin
