Address: Monette, AR, Route 2, Craighead County. * Mother said that Charlie rented land from a Tom Shaw in Mangrum Settlement, Craighead Co, AR. Could this be the Shaw of Shaw Farms? * Charlie redeemed 40 acres from State of Arkansas on Jan 28, 1896.This was on 40.05 acres which had been forfeited by non-payment of taxes in 1886. This was land that he received after his father died, viz NW 1/4 SE 1/4 Section 31 TS 12N, Range 4E. (HAL176) * His name was Charley Polk Henderson Hall. I have never been able to determine where the Polk & Henderson names came from. Of course, usually names came from some related forefathers of families. But we had no known Polk or Henderson relatives. I do know that President Polk from TN was a very special name that many people used back in those days. Charley had an uncle, James Knox Polk Robertson, brother of Charley's mother. Also, there was a Henderson in Haywood Co TN, who was very prominent in that county, and laid out the town of Brownsville. Newton Green Hall, Charley's father, was living there in the 1830's & 1840's, so that could be where they came up with the Henderson name. Below is excerpt from internet....
"William Hendrick Henderson was in Haywood County by 1823 and perhaps earlier He married his second wife, Sarah Murphy Howard, there 6 November 1823. There is evidence that he surveyed and platted for John McLemore, a large landholder, in western Tennessee lands and the town of Brownsville, the county seat of Haywood County. He was elected the first register of deeds in Haywood County and recorded the first deed ever registered in that county. The court appointed him one of the five commissioners to superintend the laying out of the town of Brownsville and the selling and conveyance of lots. His third son, Thomas Jefferson Henderson, is said to be the first white child born in Brownsville."
