a. Note:   * Newton & Sarah had 12 children, but 3 are not identified. (HAL073) * Served in , 1st Regiment, Miss. Partisan Rangers in Civil War. Then in 7th MS Calvary, Co. "C", after Partisan Rangers were disbanded. * Deed of Trust from his father in law, James Henry Robertson, Tippah Co MS, 3 Jan 1855. (HAL011) * Newton did not purchase any of his mother's, Rhoda's, estate when she died in 1858. He was not living in Tippah Co MS during this time. Do not know where he was. (Probably in Marshall Co MS, where he is listed in 1860 census) * 1840 Haywood Co TN census, age 10-15, with parents. * 1850 Tippah Co MS, Dist 3, age 21 TN, with wife. They had married in May of that year. This census was enumerated Sep 30, 1850. Living next door to his parents. * 1856 Tax List, Cartwright's Dist., Tippah Co MS. * 1860 Marshall Co MS, PO Lamar, TS 2 R 1 & 2 W, p. 4, age 30 TN, living with sister-in-law, Martha Ann Paralee Robertson Clemment. (Name shown in census was Clement), and her husband & children. Lamar is just south of present day Hwy 72 on Hwy 7. Newton's family was not listed with them. (Census enumerated on Aug 10, 1860) * 1866 State Census of MS, p. 50. Also lists a Samuel (age 0-10), and a Susan (0-10). These may have been his children that I could not identify. * 1870 Tippah Co MS, PO Ripley, TS 3 R 5, p 8, age 41 TN, with wife & children. Farmer. Lived next door to his broher, Ephraim. * 1880 Alcorn Co MS, Dist 5, p 31, age 51 TN SC SC, with wife & children. Farmer. * 1893 Poinsett Co Tax List (Although Newton died in 1884, he was still listed on the Tax List) 120 acres, Township 12, Range 4N, Section 31 (between Bolivar & Greenfield). Owning land adjacent to Newton was a D. H. Hall, 80 acres SW/NW Sec32, TS12, R4E. Do not know who the D. H. Hall was.(NP67(3) * Newton Green Hall received 120 acres of forfeited lands from the State of Arkansas to wit, NW 1/4 of SE 1/4 & E 1/2 of SE 1/4, Section 31 TS 12N, Range 4E "the said N. G. Hall having paid the full amount required by Law for said land and proof of improvement having been filed inthe office of the Commissioner of State lands as required by law, the said N. G. Hall is entitled to a deed conveying all the right, title, and interest of the state of Arkansas in and to the said lands and premises." (HAL176)
