Note: * 1850 Wayne Co TN, Dist 7, age 21 TN, with parents. * 1860 TN census lists a W. H. Curtis (Wayne-33-305) next door to William Curtis (b. 1831) & Wm. R. Curtis. * Wade died in Civil War in 1862 in Nashville, TN. Fought on the Union side, 1st Tennessee Volunteers Regiment. (Wayne Co TNHistory & Families, 1995, p 181) * CURTIS, Wade H., Sgt. Co. A, 10th TN Inf. Vals, (old 1st Mid.TN Vols.) enlisted 16 Apr 1862, Nashville,TN, age 22, 5'10½", fair complexion, light hair, blue eyes. Soldier died 8 Feb 1863 (or 23 Dec 1862, both dates given). Married Sarah A. NELSON, 11 May 1854, Wayne Co., TN at John STRIBLING's. Widow died 14 Feb 1870, Lewis Co.,TN. Children pension #179.936, filed 1873. Children: John S. CURTIS, b. 23 Feb 1855; William James CURTIS, b. 15 Aug 1856; Nancy Jane CURTIS, b. 24 Jan 1858; Mary A. CURTIS, b. 23 Nov 1860, d. 15 Feb 1862; Sarah W. CURTIS, b. 15 Aug 1863, d. "a few days after birth"; "last two children died at old homestead in Wayne Co., TN and buried there." Affidavits: William R. HAYES, Lewis Co.,TN, 11 Sep 1876; William T. MARTIN, Lewis Co., TN, 11 Sep 1876; and Mrs. Sarah E. HAYES, Lewis Co.,TN, 11 Sep 1876 (all three former residents of Wayne Co., TN); Mrs. Armintha JOHNSON, Wayne Co., TN, midwife, 10 Sep 1876. John P. HOLMES was appointed by court as legal guardian for orphans. Wade H. CURTIS interred in grave #2032, Ft.Gillem,Nsahville, TN.
