  * Something interesting is the fact that William Berlin and his son Asbury Berlin were listed as illiterate in the census records. William Berlin ran a mill, was a minister and established a school to teach blacks to read and write after the Civil War in the Big Ivy community! I wonder how the census taker determined that someone couldn't read or write
