Robert drove the wagon and team with the household furniture, while the rest of the family went by railroad. Robert left 3 days before the rest of the family. Spent the night in Memphis. Boarded his team on Front St. The next day, he was able to see the family as they passed him on the train. When Robert was crossing the Mississippi River bridge at Memphis with his team, a train started crossing at the same time on the bridge. He had to get down off the wagon and hold the horses until the train had passed, to keep them from running away. * In 1928, Dad was pastor at Farm Hill Methodist Church, off Hwy 1, Poinsett County, on Farm Hill Road, near Harrisburg. * Worked at Open Air Market, Park Ave. and Airways, Memphis, TN in late 1940s and 1950s. * Robert Jr. and Louise were born in Turner, Arkansas. Dad was preaching at Turner Methodist Church. They moved back to Harrisburg about 1931 and first moved into a "potato house" in town. Then they rented the "Duncan" house, which was located on the street about 1 block north of the First Baptist Church, which was on Highway 14. About 1932 or 1933, they bought the house at the top of the hill in Harrisburg, in which Martha Ann and Marvin were both born. There were two widow women living in the house, and one of them had died, and the other sold to mother & dad. They paid about $250 for the house, which was in very bad shape. They had Mr. Collins, a carpenter neighbor, do repairs on the house, and added a large room at the back, along with a new back porch. Dad was working for Mr. John W. Turner's Grocery at the time of the purchase. About 1944, dad took the Dyess Methodist Church in Dyess, Arkansas, and the family moved there. They were there only possibly a year or so, and then moved to 951 Barton St., Memphis, Tennessee in 1945. During the time the family lived in Dyess, they rented the Harrisburg house out. It was only after moving to Memphis, that they sold the house. The Harrisburg house burned sometime probably in the 1970s-1980s. * Here is order of residences of Robert and Myrtle Minton according to one list mother told me: 1. When they first married, they lived with Grandma Mary Eliz. Minton. 2. They then moved to Turner, AR. 3. About fall of 1934, moved near Uncle Sam Stricklin into 2 story house owned by the Whitakers, near Whitaker School near Whitaker Lane. 4. They then moved to the Duncan house in Harrisburg and Dad started to work for Bob Holmes Grocery. 5. Then bought the house at the top of the hill where Marvin was born. * FURNITURE: The high chair (owned by Martha Lawrence) was given to mother and dad from Dr. and Mrs. Norton in Marvel, AR in 1929. It was new...light oak originally. Mother painted it green after Louise was born. Later she painted it brown. The library table (owned by Marvin Minton) was bought by Dad in Jonesboro along with a cloth rug at a used furniture store. He paid $5 for the table. They were living at the "potato" house (4 rooms) in Harrisburg owned by Judson Smith about 1930. Dad was working for Bob Holmes at the time. The house was unfurnished. Uncle Berry loaned them a settee and a stove. They had 2 beds (one folding). Dad bought the old piano at Beard's Piano Store in Paragould, AR.
