Halls of Chesterfield County (Kristi Jeffords) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Message: 1 Date: Thu, 16 Jul 2009 18:04:40 -0500 From: "Karen Chapman" "<karenhchapman@verizon.net><mailto:<karenhchapman@verizon.net> Subject: Re: [HALL-SC] Halls in Laurens and Pendleton To: "<hall-sc@rootsweb.com> <mailto:<hall-sc@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <002c01ca0669$d1369b30$73a3d190$@net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii I descend from Rev. Robert Hall, also. His mother and father were James & Prudence Roddy Hall who are buried in Statesville, NC. James & Prudence Roddy Hall in Rowan County, NC, married about 1730 in PA: they had 10 children. Robert Hall's children were James Roddy, John D., and Prudence Jane and they did live in Laurens County, SC when Robert died while traveling west for his health. The information I have on Robert comes from the Presbyterian Historical Society in Montreat, NC and is very brief. John D. & wife Mary Houlditch had 11 children I'm aware of. Their son, Hezekiah married Permelia Dalyrymple had 13 children: Hezekiah & Permelia are buried in Bucksville Cemetery, Bessemer, AL. Their son, John Wesley married Mary Elizabeth McDougal; they had 3 children; John & Mary are also buried in Bucksville. Their son Milton Arl Hall was my grandfather. I have lots of information on this line. I am curious about Robert marrying Mary Nesbit. The information I have on who Robert was married to and the names of his children comes from a book "The Hall Family" written by Mary Lizzie Hall Adams in Statesville, NC. The book is located in the library there. It shows Robert was married to Mrs. Mary Wasson. James Roddy, I've never found any information on. I do show were Prudence Jane married George Gresham in Jackson County, GA but not positive the info is accurate. I've been researching this line of the Hall family for many years. I'd love to have info anyone has relating to this family. My Hall line started in PA, going down the "Wagon Road to Rowan Co, NC about 1750. I have his Donegal Presbyterian Church transfer. His son, Rev Robert Hall married in Rowan to Mrs Mary Nesbit 1790. He is next found in Pendelton Dist, SC. He died in 1797 while preaching in Greenville, TN and buried there. However, his family was back in Pendleton. I have read a transcript of his will that mentions an unborn child. My line continues with John D Hall being born 1791 in Laurens Co, SC. I would like to know what happened to the family after Robert's death? It is said, his widow remarried and moved to GA. John eventually moved to GA, but married Mary Houlditch about 1811. The elder James Hall had about 12 children so some of the lines mentioned could be related to those lines as I have not traced them all. However, many on the list are the same years, so doubtful if a close relationship. Tenn. while I researched my Hall line that was there. Nancy Hall Anderson In a message dated 7/16/2009 12:47:38 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, stacyhall9@msn.com <mailto:stacyhall9@msn.com> writes: Laurens was never in the Pendleton District. Pendleton District became Anderson, Oconee and Pickens Counties. There were Halls in both Laurens and Pendleton - I have both in my tree, and cannot find a link between them. My Laurens Hall was William Hall, born about 1728 in Maryland and died 1799 in Laurens District. He married Margaret Cunningham, and their daughter, Sarah, married James Calhoun Clardy. I have not researched for siblings for her. My Pendleton District Halls were Jesse Hall, born 1755 in Pittsylvania, Virginia and died 1833 in Seneca, Pickens District (formerly part of Pendleton). His son was Zachariah Hall, born 1786 in Pickens District and died 1869 in Oconee County (formerly part of Pickens District). His son was William Hall, born 1813 in Pickens District and still there in the 1880 census - cannot find him after that. His son was James Andrew Hall, born in 1845 in SC and died between 1910 and 1920 in Franklin County, Georgia. There are other Halls in Pendleton District at the same time as mine, and I am not sure how or if they are related. I believe there was more than one Zachariah Hall who were contemporaries. The Laurens County Library is an excellent resource - I have probably spent 30 hours there on visits. Central Wesleyan College in Central, SC, has a Clayton room dedicated to the Clayton family of the area but which may have info on other families in the area. Another excellent resource is the SC online archives. You can search a name, a location and a date range and get back an abstract on documents including land grants, legal records and wills. Good luck!
