a. Note:   e was found in Grantor Deeds Book M, page 236, dated May 12, 1856. It states that ELI HUIE sold for 400 dollars, 100 acres, 12 surveors district , Range 4, Section 7, district 2, to JAMES McNEILL , said property was deeded to ELI HUIE on November 9, 1850, Book J, page 461 by JAMES HAGLER Also of interest is a Lein that ELI HUIE made on the property in 1859. Deed of Trust, Book N, page 779 dated September 19, 1859. ELI HUIE indebted to R. D.. CALDWELL for $350.00, by December 1859 it was given to his son, SAM H. CALDWELL, tobacco crop supposed 3,000 lbs, 2 mules, 1 horse, 1 mare , 1 yoke of oxen, 1 wagon, 2 stakes of hay, 10 head of hogs, 1 clock and 1 shotgun. ELI was alive in 1861 and died before 1865. SUSAN HUIE was listed on poll tax record in 1865 as owner of the ELI HUIE property. There were no records of ownership during the Civil War years of 1862, 1863 and 1864. A story passed down to author was that three members of ELI HUIES family were in the Civil War. The story is that one was killed in battle, one died in Yankee prison camp, and one was captured and then escaped. JAMES WILLIAM HUIE, one of ELI'S sons, muster roll was located. It states that when the Confederates surrendered at the Battle of Island number 10, on the Mississippi River he escaped and returned home to Paris, Tennessee A Civil War record for ANDREW JACKSON HUIE was located which states that he was captured and died in Yankee prison camp on November 27, 1864. ELI HUIE died some time during the Civil War years, but the cause of his death has not been established.
