  COTTAGE GROVE--Wayne Arthur Gates, 66, owner of Wayne Gates Meat Co. for 31 years, died Monday.
  Gates of 31776 Gowdyville Road, was born Jan. 18, 1918, in Eugene. He married Thelma Merrell in Cottage Grove in 1939. He was a member of the Shriners' Hillah Temple and Dorena Grange and was past master of the Masonic Blue Lodge No. 51, AF&AM.
  Survivors include his wife; daughters Evelyn Shrock and Betty Black, and son Jerry Gates, all of Cottage Grove; sisters Juanita Rasmussen of Cottage Grove and Agnes Johnson of Creswell, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
  A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel with the Masonic Blue Lodge officiating. Burial will follow at Fir Grove Cemetery.
