Note: Jim Stuart Peterson's legal first name is, and always has been, Jim not James. ___________________________________________ The Eugene Register-Guard, Eugene, Ore., Feb. 1962: It's Not Christmas Cutting NOTI-If you've been wondering about all the chopping and sawing noises echoing from nearby plots of small timber don't be alarmed. They haven't started cutting Christmas trees yet. It's just your 4-H Foresters at work busily clearing land, thinning and pruning young trees. One boy is also transplanting seedlings for a Christmas tree plot. Three youngsters from the Noti area, John Rothauge, Willie Bondioli and Jim Peterson are working on these individual Forestry III projects. This means they are working on their own and are responsible for obtaining whatever guidance they need with their project. There are only four other individual forestry projects in Lane County registered with the 4-H Extension Service. Leaders of the Forestry I Club, Dick Alwerth and Henry Pierce, report that the stand of young trees planted on Swanson Brothers' property by last year's Foresters are doing nicely. It must have been all the tender, loving care with which the boys placed each seedling in the soil. _____ 1963: School News Noti School Declares Top Students Noti -- Kerry Montgomery and Jim Petersen (sic) have been named valedictorian and salutatorian of the graduating class of 1963 of Noti Grade School.
