Notes
a. Note:   John Linebaugh crossed the plains in 1852 in a wagon drawn by four oxen. They settled on a ranch near Bloomfield, Sonoma Co., Cal. He farmed in partnership with his brother Abraham Linebaugh. Their wives were sisters. ___________________ From Diane Wiscarson: From the research of Donald J. Lineback: John III was born in Green Co TN; mother was John Linebaugh, Jr's first wife. John III went to Sonoma County CA in 1852 with his brother Abraham and their families. Old records show that the Linebaugh and Fruits wagon left Page Co IA 13 Apr 1852; arrived in CA in Sept. They had some livestock stolen by Indians. Other Indians wanted such things as salt, tobacco and sugar but gave them no trouble.
John bought land in the southern portion of Sonoma County as early as December 1858. Sonoma County records show a recordation of a homestead by John and Catherine on 19 November 1862. He operated a ranch of 300 acres near Bloomfield until 1864, when he sold it and bought 124 acres in the Blucher valley, where he lived until his death. _____________________ According to William Rose, Catherine (Fruits) Linebaugh "was a member of the Camelite Christian Church, a split from the Baptist denomination. In 1850 or 1851 they came into California over the Donner Pass and settle in the Petaluma area. Her mother and aunt accompanied the travelers. The Linebaugh's had a 160 acre ranch in Blucher Valley. She is buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, south west of Sebastopol, California. The tombstone gives death as age 45 years, 3 months, 11 days: 18 November, 1876.
As another Fruits lady is buried in the family area, I assume that this is Catharine's mother or aunt." ________________________ 1850 Page Co., Iowa Census, District No. 22, taken 27 Sep 1850 [Ancestry.com, District 22, Image #13]:
