  Keyes, Frank - age 40 - boarder - laborer - b. Mo. - F born Mo. - M born Mo.
He is living with the George Smith family - Dwelling #606 - Family #608. This may account for the errors in his age and the birthplace information for him and his parents. Living next door is his brother, Albert Keyes (spelled Elbert in this census]. ____________________________ 1900 Whitman Co., Wash. Census, Palouse Prct.   At the time of this census, I have Mary E. (Walters) Wilson Keyes as the mother of five Wilson children and one Keyes child. I cannot see how she could have had 11 children with 9 still living as the census states. If she did have two children that died young, that would still make her the mother of eight children not 11. Several birth years and ages are written over as if they had been corrected and are, therefore, difficult to read. ________________ Palouse, Wash. Sept 10, 09
Mr. Frank Keyes Dear Father Mother & all:
Will endeavor to scratch you a few lines as I have at last got time to catch an idle breath or two.
I am threshing oats, it rained and so here I am waiting for the sun to shine. My oats were good. Will average close to fifty bu. I guess. My wheat was good too. I don't think it is going to rain much, I hope not as I want to get done.
I was out binding 27 days.
I cut 23 days with out stoping Sundays and all. Averaged 16 1/2 acres a day for the 27 days. I had to stop on account of a little rain.
I cut 450 acres and never even had to change the motter or disc and I tied just about all of them. Cut 30 acres for Miller & missed only once bundle. My machine is good yet and I have it paid for and my crop cut too. My horses have all had the disterry but are getting some better now.
I was intending to go to the river for fruit Saturday but guess the rain will make me a day or so later.
I have that same fellow working for me that I had when ma left.
  I couldn't have gotten a better man.
I saw Crooks and told him what you said.
I saw Lawn Saturday he is well a little blue over his "Widow" I guess. He is working at the mill he told me he had my money for me any time this week. I came after it, so that helps some.
I suppose you are eating fish by the score. how did the children like it there. I hope you are all satisfied & well. It seems odd not to go over to your place every week or so but guess we will have to get used to it.
Well the whistle is blowing I must go.
Will finish your letter at last got my oats threshed flat mad 75 the hill 42. averaged 51 1/2. I had two acres on the flat that made 83 sacks or 124 1/2 bu per acre. The first piece of oats I ever cut or expect to see cut again. Recd your letter in regard to the estate . . .
[Note: The last page/s are missing so it is not clear who wrote the letter. The "Lawn" referred to would be Frank's brother, Alonzo Keyes. It is most likely from Eugene Wilson, the youngest step-son of Frank Keyes. Frank Wilson, the other step-son of Frank Keyes, was married in Eugene, Oregon in July 1909.] ________________________ 1910 Lane Co., Ore.   Frank Wilson is actually Stanley Keyes older half brother. Francis Keyes was actually born in Conn. _____________________________________________________________________ The Harrisburg Bulletin and Commonwealth, Harrisburg, Linn Co., Ore., Nov. 8, 1923:
  F. E. Keys of Springfield arrived today for a few days visit at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clarence Peterson. _________________________________________________ Harrisburg Bulletin, Harrisburg, Linn Co., Ore., Sept. 2, 1926:
  E. E. Keyes, aged 84 years, fell Sunday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Clarence Peterson, in the north end of town, and fractured a hip-bone. He was taken to a hospital in Eugene, where he is getting along as well as could be expected--considering his age. [Harrisburg, Ore. - should be F. E. or E. F. Keyes] _______________________________________________ Harrisburg Bulletin, Harrisburg, Linn Co., Ore., May, 1927: Veterans of Four Wars Remembered
The flight of years has thinned the ranks of the Civil War veterans. Only four of them are now living in this community: Lawrence Lamb, Everett Hover, A. M. Gaunt and F. E. Keyes. . .
  F. E. Keyes enlisted at Omaha in 1861 and served nearly four years in both infantry and cavalry. He was in the fighting at Vicksburg, Shiloh and other places. . . __________________________________________ Pioneer Cem., Eugene, Lane Co., Ore. - inscription:
