  Sarah Ann (Lawson) Walters was a housewife and manager with her husband of the Artesian Hotel in Farmington, Whitman Co., Wash. She passed away March 10, 1916 in her rooms at the Artesian in Farmington. She is buried without a marker in the Walters family plot, Farmington Cem., Farmington, Whitman Co., Wash. Her obituary says she was born in Davis (Davies) Co., Missouri, August 7, 1851 and moved to Mohaska, Iowa. There she met and married Solomon Walters on August 8, 1867. They moved, with their children to Farmington, Wash. in October 1888. She is survived by one son (Joan's grandfather) James William Walters and two daughters, Ora Walters Clarkston and Della Walters Green, three brothers, John Lawson of Farmington, Wash., Thomas Lawson of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Sam Lawson of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and four sisters, Mary Lawson Sneed of Kirksville, Mo., Tilda Lawson Young of Stall City, Mo., Rena Lawson Weese of Maraline, Mo.

  Mrs. Walters Crosses Divide, succumbs to long illness after a busy and useful life--resided here "Over twenty-eight years, was a business woman since death of husband, has conducted Artesian Hotel.
  Mrs. S. A. Walters, a pioneer and business woman of Farmington passed away Tuesday in her rooms in the Artesian Hotel after an illness of several months.
  Mrs. Walters was born Aug. 7, 1851 in Davis County Mo. Her maiden name being Sarah Ann Lawson. She was married August 7, 1867 to Solomon Harris Walters and resided in Mohaska Co. Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Walters came with their children to Farmington in October 1888. Mr. Walters died here March 15, 1913. Since his death, Mrs. Walters had conducted the Artesian Hotel under her personal management.
  The deceased is survived by one son James W. Walters of Chatcolet, Idaho; two daughters Mrs. E. A. Green and Mrs. J. C. Clarkston of this place; three brothers, John of this place, Thomas of Ponca City Okla, and Sam of Cheyenne, Wyoming and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Sneed of Kirksville Mo, Mary Walters, Green Castel, Mo. Mrs. Tilda Young of Utah City Mo. and Mrs. Rena Weese, Maraline Mo.
  In the 28 years of her residence in Farmington, Mrs. Walters proved herself a loyal friend to many who were privileged to enjoy her acquaintance, a loving mother to her family, a capable business woman, and a true hearted christian. _____________________________ Washington State Digital Archives:
