Notes
a. Note:   Pamphlet--Upper Will Creek or Matney Area. Sam John's Will and Brook's Meadows by Wm. H. McNeal, The Dalles, Oregon 1972. "Knebel Springs" The Knebel - - Bingham Springs about 2 miles above Polywog Springs on the Brooks meadows Road, was acquired by Thomas Knebel about 1883 from prospector Bingham who had built a cabin there, turned it over to Knebel and left for parts unknown. Thomas Knebel was born (1862) in Germany and in 1870 came to Eugene with his father, and in 1880 with the coming of the railroad he came to The Dalles settling in Spicenger Canyon (Orchard Road). When Sam Johns located his mill just below Polywog Springs, Tom Knebel went to work at the mill and acquired the Bingham cabin for a place to stay near the mill, and because the waters had healthful medical values to him, and because his asthma was better in that area; and he and his entire family liked to hunt, fish, ride and be in the mountains. He had sons Joe and Dan and daughters Jose, Teresa, Mary, Addie, Ida and Kate. Dan and Joe worked at the old Wasco Mill for years. __________________________________________________ 1880 Lane Co., Ore.
