a. Note:   MRS. MARY KNEBEL DIES Old Resident of The Dalles Survived by Seven Children.
  THE DALLES, Or., April 14 - (Special.)-Mrs. Mary Knebel, 74, an Oregon resident since 1871, died here Thursday morning at the home of her grandson, Ellas Knebel.
  Mrs. Mary Knebel was born in Iowa in 1842. She was married in 1858 to Thomas Knebel, and in 1871 they migrated to Oregon, where they took up a homestead near Eugene. In 1881 they moved to The Dalles. In 1888 her husband died, and was buried here. Eight children were born and seven survive her.
  The funeral of Mrs. Knebel was held at the St. Peter's Catholic Church Friday, Father Broonsgest officiating. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery beside the body of her husband. _____________________ Aged Women is Called -- Mrs. Mary Knebel, aged 74, died early this morning at the home of her grandson, Ellas Knebel. The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Peter's Catholic church, the Rev. Father Bronsgest officiating. The interment will take place in the Catholic cemetery. Mrs. Knebel was born in Iowa, August 17, 1842. Her husband Thomas Kenebel (sic), died February 6, 1899, 27 years after the family moved to Oregon. The following children survive: Mrs. Thersia Aulauf and Mrs. George Nawak, of Santa Paula, Cal.; Mrs. William Knight Metier of Centerville, Wash.; Mrs. Deliah Harvey of Toppenish, Wash. and Mrs. William Cushing, Mrs. Mary Denton, Joseph and Dan Knebel of The Dalles.   KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS, That I, Mary Knebel, a resident of The Dalles, Wasco County, Oregon being of the age of 74 years, and being at the present time of sound and disposing mind and memory, but conscious of the uncertainty of human life, do deem it best to make and do, accordingly, hereby make, publish and declare this instrument to be my last will and testament.
  1. I hereby direct that all my just debts and liabilities be paid as soon after my demise out of the proceeds of my estate, as the same may be practicable.
  2. I hereby give, devise and bequeath unto my children, Theresia Anlauf, wife of Herman Anlauf, of Anbeim, California, Mary Denton, wife of Thomas Denton, of The Dalles, Oregon, Josephine Cushing, wife of William Cushing, of The Dalles, Oregon, Joseph Knebel of The Dalles, Oregon, Daniel Knebel, of The Dalles, Oregon, Katie Nowak, wife of Geroge Nowak, Santa Paula, California, and Ida Metier, wife of Knight Metier, of Centerville, Washington The sum of One Dollar ($1.00) each, in cash.
  3. All the rest, residue and remainder of all the property of which I may die possessed, both real and personal, of whatsoever kind and wheresoever situated I will bequeath unto my grandson Eilas (sic) Knebel, to be his absolutely.
  4. I hereby name, nominate and appoint my said grandson, Ellas Knebel my last will and testament, and further direct that no bonds or undertaking him by any court in the performance of his trust as executor of this will. IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and seal to this, will and testament, on this 27th day of December, 1915.
