COMMENTARY: The 1870 census record is a recent find (2007) and points out my error in thinking that John Bluxford Gamble had perished in the Civil War. ----------------------------- U.S., Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles, 1861-1865 Name: John B Gamble Residence: Georgia Enlistment Date: 11 Jun 1861 Rank at enlistment: Private State Served: Georgia ----------------------------- CHAMBERS CO., AL, LAND RECORDS: After locating John Bluxford Gamble in Chambers Co., AL in the 1870 census, further research revealed numerous land sales and purchases found in Chambers County mortage and deed records. Many of the land transactions were made in cooperation with John's brother, Dr. George Marion Gamble. Some of the transactions are dated in the early 1880's. So, it is now known that John B. Gamble lived into the 1880's in and around the Chambers Co., AL area. However, I have not been able to locate him in the 1880 census. ------------------------------------- CHAMBERS CO., AL, RECORDS (See scrapbook pictures) show that John Bluxford Gamble and his brother, George Marion Gamble owned and operated a mercantile and grocery business in LaFayette, AL in the early 1870's.
