Notes
a. Note:   CENSUS DATA: The 1880 census, Coosa Co., AL, Goodwater Beat, SD=2, ED=51, p. 37, taken 17 June 1880, shows a George W. Dillard, male, age 31, born AL, father & mother born SC. He is shown living in the home of Angus McLeod and his family. George is shown as keeping books. ---------------------- In the book, A LOTTA SOUTHERN GAMBLES, Chapter 20, Descendants of Jabez M. Dillard, Bonnie Gamble Ballanger notes the following information: " 17. George W. Dillard was born on 30 Mar 1850 in Talladega Co., Alabama. He died on 16 Dec 1857 in Tallapoosa Co., Alabama. He may have died in Talladega Co. He was buried in Dillard Cemetery in Tallapoosa Co., Alabama." ------------------------------ COMMENTARY: A conflict between the two above pieces of information exists. Research continues. However, the death of George W. Dillard in 1857 at an early age is not supprising since his mother & father, Martha Finney Dillard and Jabez Dillard, died in 1855 & 1857 respectively. Yellow Fever may have still been active there in Talladega Co., AL. Although some researchers believe Martha Finney Dillard died as a result of childbirth complications in 1855.
ADDED INFORMATION: Records from Tallapoosa County, AL. Cemeteries - Confederate Soldiers buried in Tallapoosa Co. shows a Dillard, George W. born Aug 14, 1848, member of Gamble's Regiment of The Militia, still in Tallapoosa County in 1910.
NOTE: Not sure any the above is our George W. Dillard. Research continues.
