John Robert McCollister's Obituary - Southern Democrat, Oneonta, AL, October 8, 1942. "John Robert McCollister, aged about eighty one years, died at his home in Village Springs Saturday evening, Oct. 3rd. He had suffered a stroke of paralysis five days previous and grew steadily worse. Mr. McCollister was in business at Village Springs for a number of years and was well and favorably known in both Blount and Jefferson counties. Surviving the deceased are the daughter, Mrs. W. T. Gamble of Village Springs, four sons, Letcher of Bessemer; John of Birmingham; T. F. of Montgomery; and Roy H. of Birmingham; Two brothers Will and J.P. McCollister. Funeral services were from the Village Springs Church Monday afternoon with interment in Forest Hill Cemetery, Rev. H. Kimbrill officiating."
