Note: CENSUS DATA: The 1900 federal census, Montgomery Co., AL, Montgomery City shows an Eddie McGraw, age 8, born February 1892 in AL. Eddie is shown living with Ira S. [F] Doster and his wife Addie Doster and is identified as a "boarder". Whether this Eddie McGraw is Edward Caroll McGraw ,son of Frances Cox McGraw and John McGraw, is not known at this time. However, the birth month and year shown on the census record match known information about E. C. McGraw. It is known that John McGraw and Frances Bell Cox McGraw either separated or divorced or John McGraw died or was killed prior to 1900. The children from that marriage were shown living with other families (see more detailed information under notes of Robert E. McGraw and Estelle McGraw. CENSUS DATA: The 1910 census record taken 18 April 1910, ED=58, Sheet 12, Vol=78, shows Edward, age 19 living with his father, John Robert and stepmother, F. B. Mccollister in Birmingham. CENSUS DATA: The 1920 census, Jefferson Co., AL, Birmingham, Vol = 48; Ed = 178; Sheet = 19; Line=25; shows E. C. McGraw, age 28, living with wife Mattie, age 23; Estelle, dau., age 7 and Margeurite, dau., age 5 months. This record shows the family living at 7509 Hillman Street, Birmingham, AL. E. C. and Margeurite were shown as being born in Alabama and Mattie and Estelle in Mississippi. E. C. McGraw's occupation was listed as carpenter at a steel Company (name unreadable). COMMENTARY: Family lore was that Edward Carroll McGraw moved to Tishomingo Co., MS to work. While there he met and married Mattie Atkins. Apparently, he moved to MS around 1911-1913 based on the age of his first child Estelle, age 7 in 1920. CENSUS DATA: In the 1940 census, Edward C McGraw, 43, born AL abt 1897, married, 8th grade eucation, working as floor sander and living on 8th Avenue in Phenix City, Russell, Alabama. Lived at same residence in 1935. Living with him was Ruth J.. McGraw 43, wife, born AL. Signed 5 June 1917. ---------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Obituary of Edward C. McGraw: "Edward C. McGraw, 68, was pronounced dead at 5:30 A.M. Sunday upon arrival at Cobb Memorial Hospital. Mr. McGraw had been ill for several years and was fatally stricken at his home , 1013 Eight Ave, Phenix City. He was born Feb. 27, 1892 near Birmingham, Ala., a son of the late John and Frances Cox McGraw. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a retired floor finisher. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth McGraw, Phenix City; a son George McGraw, Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Estelle Morgan, Muscle Shoals, Ala., and Mrs. Marguerite Lambert, Iuka, Miss.; a sister, Mrs. Estelle Young, Birmingham, and three half-brothers, Roy, John, and Letcher McCollister, all of Birmingham." Probably appeared December 19, 1960 in a Phenix City, AL area newspaper. NOTE: Second Obituary of Edward C. McGraw: "Funeral of Edward C. McGraw will be held Tuesday afternoon, from the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, Phenix City, with Rev. McKindley Weaver, Pastor of Sherwood Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Riverdale Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, G. F. Duck, Felix Bell, Warren Wyrick, Raymond Hitchcock, Roy Gresham, and Harry Scott. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth McGraw, Phenix City; a son George McGraw, Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Estelle Morgan, Muscle Shoals, Ala., and Mrs. Marguerite Lambert, Iuka, Miss.; a sister, Mrs Estelle Young, Birmingham, and three half-brothers, Roy, John, and Letcher McCollister, all of Birmingham. The body will remain at the Colonial Chapel.
