a. Note:   CENSUS DATA: The 1860 census record, p. 488 of Carroll Co., GA, 6th Dist., taken 11 Jun 1860, shows Cenna E., age 26 and born in SC and her husband Edley Davis, age 25 and born in GA. Children living with them were: William R., son, age 5; Sarah L., dau, age 3; and George R., son, age 1. Edley's mother, Louisa Davis, is living next door with two of her children. Edley's father, William N. Davis is not shown and presumed deceased.
  CENSUS DATA: The 1870 census record of June 16, 1870; Page 35 (592), Muscogee Co., Columbus, GA. shows Emaline Davis, age 35 living in Columbus, GA. Living with her are five children: Louisa, dau, age 13; George R. Davis, son, age 12; Lucinda Davis, dau, age 9; Edley J. Davis, son, age 5; and John T. Davis, son, age 4. No husband listed (See information relative to her husband's war service under notes for Edley Davis, Sr.) Three of the children, Sarah, George, and Lucinda were shown as working at a cotton mill.
  CENSUS DATA: The 1880 census record of June 10, 1880; Page 39 (236), SD=4; ED=98, Brownville, AL. shows Emaline Davis, age 60 living in Brownville, AL. No husband listed. Living with her are George R. Davis, son, age 23; Edley J. Davis, son, age 18; and John T. Davis, son, age 14. All three of the children were shown as working at a cotton mill. Living next door is Thomas Mehaffey, head, age 22, born GA. and working in cotton mill. Living with him are Lucinda Mehaffey, wife, age 19, born AL and Sarah E., dau., age 1, born AL. Lucinda is Emaline Davis' daughter and her family as affirmed in Emaline's obituary shown below. --------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Neither Syrena Emaline McCollister Davis or her husband Edley Davis, Sr., signed the Indentured Deed in 1859 where proceeds from the sale of her mother's land inheritance from her father's estate in Carroll Co, Ga. were distributed to her other children. (Detailed Deed information shown under information related to Sarah Bailey McCollister.) Information on why Syrena & Edley did not sign the Indentured Deed has not surfaced at this time (2007).
  NOTE: Syrena Emaline McCollister and M. Elizabeth McCollister married brothers, i.e., John Jefferson Davis and Edley J. Davis, Sr. --------------------------------------------- OBITUARY INFORMATION: From the Columbus Enquirer-Sat, July 17, 1907, reads: "MRS. EMALINE DAVIS HAS PASSED AWAY. SHE WAS ONE OF THE OLDEST RESIDENTS OF THIS COMMUNITY. Mrs. Emaline Davis, 82 years old, died at her residence, on the corner of first street and seventh avenue Girard, at 5:30 o'clock, yesterday afternoon, of old age and general disability. She leaves two sons and one daughter. Mr. John Davis of Phenix City, Mr. Jack Davis of Florida, and Mrs. T. O. Mehafee of Griffin, Ga, one brother, Mr. Thos. McCollister of Phenix City, also survives her. The funeral will take place from Mr. McCollister's residence some hour this afternoon. The exact hour will not be fixed until after the arrival of Mrs. Mehafee from Griffin. Mrs. Davis had resided in Phenix City and Girard practically all of her life, and was one of the best known residents of the community. She had a great many friends over the twin cities, all of whom will be saddened to learn of her death." -------------------------------------------------- OBITUARY INFORMATION: From the Columbus Enquirer-Sun, July 18, 1907, reads: "MRS. DAVIS' FUNERAL. The funeral of Mrs. Emaline Davis, whose death occurred at her home on the corner of Seventh Avenue and First Street, Girard, on Tuesday afternoon, took place yesterday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock from the residence of Mr. Tom McCollister in Phenix City, conducted by R. W. Greene. Interment was in Linwood Cemetery, the following gentlemen being the pallbearers: Messers, B. W. Edmunds, J. H. Taylor, J. M. Wilder, H. Skipper, J. W. Williams, and A. G. Bankston."
