Notes
a. Note:   He was in the Army, during the time of World War I, but before he was sent overseas, the war was over. He served some of his time at Ft. Sills, Ok. A Neice about his age told me this.
1920 census of Dawson Co., TX, 7b, ED 50, O. R. Bearden age 34, Ella age 29, Cary (son) age 4 and O. O. Bearden age 24 single (Oscar Otto).
After marriage to Lillie, they came to Martin County, Texas between April and September and bought 160 acres where they lived until after 1960. 1930 census Martin Co. TX Pct 4 has Otto, Lilia D, Eddiner age 7 and Mannie Lana 1 10/12 (this is way it is indexed.
Otto was County Commissioner for Precinct 3 from 1944 to 1950. His daughter says in the Martin County History that he was commissioner in the mid '30's also.
About 1965 he and Lillie decided on a divorce and he moved to Red River County and persuaded his nephew to sell him some land (36.4 acres) and he built a small house and lived there until about 1970 when he was incapable of taking care of himself and was in the Clarksville Nursing home until he died in Feb. of 1972.
In his papers I found a Membership Certificate from the Memorial Hospital of Martin County, Stanton Texas where he had paid $75. for it. But the Hospital had been paid for and the certificate worthless.
In a letter dated 5 July (about 1968 or 69 year date not noted) Otto writes to the Parks family, mentioning trying to sell timber and " the place is paid out you boys better keep it" This was the first inkling that he planned on giving the place to the boys.
On the 9th of February 1968 Otto made out his will in Dawson County Texas. He gives his daughter Nanny Lou Howard the sum of $1.00 and his daughter Edna Dale Kerley also $1.00 and $1.00 to Lillie Bearden (his ex wife) He leaves the remainder of his estate to sons of his deceased son Benjamin Wayne Bearden, Brian Wayne Bearden and Paul Kevin Bearden, in the event they are minors ,the estate to Coy Hannah as Trustee. and he was also appointed to act as Executor, but a codicil was later executed to name Sue Aiken as Executor.
Sue Aiken was named Executor by the court on 4th April, 1972.
The estate was finally settled in 1977. There was monies in hand and royalty payments on oil on the place in Martin County and mineral rights on that acreage.
