Note: Sarah Ann Waters was born on January 29, 1834, and is the daughter of William Waters (1810 '96 1840) and Martha Catherine Smith (1812 '96 1875). She is one of five children from that marriage. In addition, she is the half-sister to the 6 children from the 1840 marriage of her mother, Martha, to Samuel Fulton Patterson, after her father William Waters died in 1840. On December 22, 1853, at the age of 18, Sarah married Patrick Moore Lancaster in Smith County, Tennessee. They produced 6 children. The 1860 US Census shows Patrick and Sarah living in New Middleton, Smith County, Tennessee with their first two children, William Samuel and Nancy Minerva. The 1870 US Census shows Sarah and Patrick still living in Smith County, Tennessee. By then, their family had grown to include Mary Catherine, Sarah, and James. Patrick's occupation is listed as a minister. By 1880, Sarah and Patrick had moved to Wilson County, Tennessee. Living with them were daughter Sarah (age 13), son James (age 11), and their youngest, and last, child, Louise Elizabeth (age 8). By this time, their three older children had married. Sometime between 1880 and 1890, Patrick and Sarah moved to Bowie, Montague County, Texas. Sarah died in Bowie in 1893 at the age of 58.
