  Norma Wingfield, widow of well-known trainer Jim K. Wingfield, recently (1999) passed away in Leesburg, Ga. She was 76. Mrs. Wingfield was born in Oklahoma, and her family was involved in harness racing on the old Kansas-Oklahoma Circuit. She graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University with a degree in public administration, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She worked for the League of Women Voters in New York City and the municipal planning board in Memphis, Tenn., before moving to California in 1951 to be closer to her parents. While working in Bay Meadows' race office she met Jim Wingfield, formerly the groom of Greyhound and then a rising young trainer. They were married. In 1956, they moved to Leesburg, Ga., and established a farm. While raising two daughters and a son, she also became involved in real estate sales. A longtime member and chairman of the Lee County Planning Commission, Mrs. Wingfield was also a member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She is survived by her brother, veteran horseman Neil Agnew Boardman; three children, Kim W. Smith, Wendy W. Martin and Neil B.; and 10 grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Albany Community Hospice or the Leesburg United Methodist Church Building Fund.
